Meet Milly — she has been my 73-year-old mother’s main trail mount for the past 4 years and has carried her for many miles with confidence and ease. Milly has been ridden in the Shawnee National Forest, South Dakota, Eminence, Big Piney, and countless other trail rides across the Midwest.
Milly handles water crossings, hills, steep terrain, brush, and wildlife calmly and confidently. She rides out alone with no issues and has one of the smoothest foxtrots I’ve personally ever ridden.
She gets along great with other horses and stands quietly on a picket line, at the trailer, or tied to a hitching rail. Milly is accustomed to saddle bags, ice chests, and empty cans rattling around on the trail. She is excellent for the farrier, easy to catch, trailers well, and settles right in when hauled to new places.
The only reason my mother has decided to part with Milly is because she has more pasture than dry lot space available. Milly foundered last spring, but has made a full recovery and is sound and ready to hit the trails this summer. Radiographs are on file, and our farrier is very pleased with how her feet look. She does best in a dry lot situation or with limited grazing time.
If you’re looking for a safe, smooth, dependable trail mare with plenty of experience, this is your girl!
